UK’s Top 10 Best-selling Cars 2010

The latest UK new car sales stats of 2010 are in – and according to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the good news is that the car volumes over the first five months of the year have increased by 22% and the new car registrations in May were up 13.5% marking the eleventh successive monthly rise.

However, a modest decline in new car registrations is expected in the second half of 2010  as the successful scrappage scheme comes to an end.  Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, believed that the coming months will be very challenging and therefore supportive government policies are required to promote consumer and business confidence to maintain the market and economic recovery.

In terms of the best-selling cars in the UK, Ford’s Fiesta was knocked off the best selling model list for the first time this year, by the Ford Focus according to the May figures. Elsewhere, the Vauxhall Astra & Vauxhall Corsa had another strong month of sales. But what does the chart of best selling cars 2010 look like? And has the Ford Fiesta sustained its stranglehold on the top position, or has the Focus finally has a chance to be in the top spot?
