Meet the new Renault Kadjar – big brother to the French giant’s popular Captur crossover SUV.
It may have an odd name, but it looks good and it will be up against the all-conquering Nissan Qashqai when it goes on sale this autumn.
Other rivals in this highly competitive sector include the Mazda CX5, Skoda Yeti and Honda CR-V.
Renault says the Kadjar “stands out through its fluid, athletic exterior styling” adding that “its interior is both sporty and refined, courtesy of the quality of the materials employed and the attention that has gone into its finish”.
Just so you know, the name ‘Kadjar’ isn’t totally random – ‘kad’ is inspired by the world ‘quad’ – a term for a four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle – while ‘Jar’ is a throwback to the French word ‘jaillir’ which means to emerge quickly!
The Kadjar will be available in front wheel drive and 4×4 versions and will be built in Palencia, Spain, for sales in Europe.
However, it will also become the first Renault to be manufactured in China where Renault is hoping to gain a 3.5% market share for its cars.
The Renault Kadjar will be officially unveiled at the 85th Geneva Motor Show which opens to the public on March 5, 2015.
