Motoring is no longer the sole domain of men and many women now take an active interest in the design, spec and performance of new cars on the market.
Think of it like this, car design is a work of art; as is fashion design, interior design and music – three things that women have traditionally been ‘into’. The female stamina for shopping also makes the ladies perfectly placed for purchasing shiny new models to brighten up their driveways. Gone are the days when women were only interested in the colour of their new car, nowadays they are giving the men a run for their money in terms of the demands they make on car manufacturers.
Women still want practicality, they still want economy, they still want safety but they also want to look good in whatever they’re ‘wearing’ and that includes their cars. Let’s take a look at some of the makes and models currently catching the eyes of the ladies…
Range Rover Evoque…
The stunning new Range Rover Evoque brings the aspirational designs of a concept car to life. With the Range Rover brand and reputation for quality, the Evoque is also sleek and small enough for female drivers to handle elegantly. The perfect modern car for the fashion-conscious female.
Mazda Mx5…
This is a classic favourite with the ladies and has been ever since its launch in 1989. Whilst not entirely practical for a full weeks shop or for taking the kids to school, this sporty number is spot on for ‘ladies who lunch’ and who want to inject a bit of fun into their daily routine.
Toyota Yaris…
The cleverly designed Toyota Yaris has always been a favourite with women drivers. Its compact, urban design coupled with its spacious and high-spec interior gives women the best of both worlds. The third generation Toyota Yaris launched this summer boasts great fuel efficiency and comes with Toyota Touch & Go multimedia technology, allowing the modern woman to enjoy all the perks of high-tech driving.
BMW Mini Cooper S
Minis have been favoured by women for generations; they’re cool, they’re quirky, they’re fun and now the Cooper S cranks up the kudos for women who want to team style with performance.
Volkswagen Beetle
Iconic, Cute and funky, this is one VW that is still proving increasingly popular with women. Whilst the manufacturer insists they haven’t been solely designed with women in mind, it’ll be interesting to see whether the ‘beefed up’ 2012 Beetle continues to attract more females than males.
What makes a car more attractive to female drivers than to male drivers? Is it the colour choices, sleek bodywork or something else? Let us know your thoughts…
Admit it, this was written by a 6th grade boy in journalism class. Or is a joke?
Off to get my rest do I can have the stamina to survive a day of shopping and steering my car tomorrow.
I hope next week’s article will generalize car preference by race!
