It is estimated that there are close to two million uninsured drivers on Britain’s roads. Very worrying indeed although on a slightly glib note, if the authorities know this with any certainty then why are they not able to identify and deal with them? This is really the ultimate form of lying about your car insurance however I am sure even the most law abiding amongst us have been tempted to be a little less than honest when dealing with car insurance. Given the car insurance companies abilities to wiggle out of paying claims, delaying claims and then reducing the settlement figures to insulting levels it is hardly surprising. However, the insurance companies spend a lot of time and money making sure that we are honest.
When making a claim many companies insist on a telephone call to take all of the details. This is because some insurance companies have lie detector equipment that analyse callers ‘voice stress levels’. The results of this then are used to offer the caller the opportunity to confirm their claim is correct or withdraw their claim. Car insurance companies are reporting that up to 25% of people withdraw their claim for claims involving both new cars and used cars.
Another tempting option for people is to pass off old damage to a car in the same area as new genuine accident damage and get it repaired at the same time. If an insurance investigator looks at the damage prior to repair they are easily able to spot the old and the new. Not only will the old damage not be repaired, you could find yourself looking at a criminal investigation for fraud.
So the moral to this story is that if you feel tempted to lie about your car insurance, don’t!
