You will have to be quick to snap up the Audi R8 GT Supercar, with a production run of just 333 worldwide and only 33 of them for the UK – but with a price tag of £141,000 on the road, checking with the bank manager first would probably be a good idea.
The new Audi R8 is a hybrid of the V10 Coupe and the LMS race car, combining the best of both cars to produce an elegant, beast of a machine. It is 100Kg lighter than its contemporaries, while Audi claim the 5.2 litre, V10 FSI engine reaches 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds, with a top end of 199 mph.
To achieve the weight loss, the Audi dietitians have used thinner glass in the windscreen and polycarbonate rear windows. Much of the body panels have also been replaced with carbon fibre ones. Engineers have trimmed and toned almost every possible aspect of the Audi R8 to produce the buff GT version.
Harnessed bucket seats, a GT-designed steering wheel and white instrument dials prove that this car is the product of a racing mind. From the leather upholstery to the tooled gear stick, the Audi R8 GT screams of a quality finish. Externally the car growls power, obviously aerodynamically-shaped, low slung, with rear spoilers, diffusers and fins to make sure it hugs the road.
The R8 has already won many accolades in the high performance sports car category, winning the World Performance Car award in 2008 and the successful LMS race car. The Audi R8 GT looks likely to follow in the footsteps of its predecessors.
