Audi A6 Hybrid in the Making

audi-a6

The Audi A6 Hybrid is a spacious, comfortable car. Saloon drivers will love the Audi A6 because of its array of engine capabilities. The range includes several petrol engines, from a 2.0-litre TFSI all the way up to a 4.2-litre FSI V8 and a V10 in the S6 and three diesels: a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TDI, 2.7 and 3.0-litre six-cylinder. The base petrol gets 170bhp with the 3.0-litre TDI in first place for performance.

But for those of us not interested in engine speed and performance, but more concerned with our carbon footprints, Audi’s third hybrid model will be the next generation A6, debuting near the end of 2010.

By introducing modular hybrids (as developed by Volkswagen and Porsche before them), Audi should create hybrid variants of all models by the end of the decade. Technical chief Michael Dick estimates that the hybrids will play a more important role in the future than battery electrics, which he believes will only account for 5 % of sales once all hybrid models have been rolled out.

Before the release of the A6, look forward to the Q5 hybrid next year and the A8 to follow early next year.
