Kia has celebrated the launch of the all-new Stinger Gran Turismo with a high-speed airport stunt.
Three Kia Stinger ‘GT S’ models were let loose on Cornwall Airport Newquay’s 1.7-mile runway, achieving speeds of more than 150mph.
Demonstrating the power of the new rear-wheel drive Kia flagship, three pro-drivers took to the former military air strip in a staggered ‘half duck V’ pattern.
Starting at the east end of the runway, the vehicles were at full throttle until reaching the last quarter-length of the tarmac when their 350mm ventilated Brembo discs brakes brought all three cars safely to a stop.
The ‘GT S’ models are powered by a twin-turbo 365bhp 3.3-litre V6 T-GDi engine, capable of taking the car from standstill to 60mph in only 4.7 seconds, and a top speed of 168mph.
The Bloodhound SSC world land speed title challenger completed its first high-speed test run, reaching speeds of 200mph, on the same runway in October.
