The Volvo XC40 has grabbed another ‘Car of the Year’ award, adding an Honest John trophy to its European and Japanese titles.
Billed as the “most honest and unbiased awards in the industry”, the overall winner of the Honest John Awards is the car that has proved the most popular with the site’s users over the past 12 months.
As well as storming to victory in the ‘Premium Crossover’ category, the XC40 took the overall ‘Car of the Year’ prize.
“We were mightily impressed with the XC40 when it was first launched, but even we couldn’t predict just how popular it would be, ultimately being crowned the Honest John Car of the Year for 2019,” said Honest John Editor David Ross.
“Well built, stylish and refreshingly different from the usual crossovers, the XC40 is a car we have found ourselves repeatedly recommending to readers over the past 12 months.”
Another significant achiever in the 2019 honours was the Suzuki Swift 1.0 BoosterJet, which took the Real MPG prize. Real MPG is HonestJohn.co.uk’s measure of testing real life fuel economy figures via input direct from its readers, and achieved an average MPG with the site’s readers of 67.4mpg – 102.9% of the manufacturer’s claimed figure.
