The Ford Fiesta has been named Britain’s favourite new car for the 11th year in a row after easily topping the sales charts in 2019.
Almost 78,000 new Ford Fiestas were registered last year, beating the 58,994 total of the car in second place, the Volkswagen Golf. It just pipped the Ford Focus in third with 56,619 registrations.
However, the final official figures for 2019, released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show 2.31 million new cars were registered in the UK in 2019, down 2.4% on the previous 12 months.
Diesel sales plummeted again (nearly 22% year-on-year), while the demand for hybrid and electric cars was up 20.6%, meaning alternatively-fuelled cars took a record market share of 7.4% in the UK.
