Mazda has teamed up with BAFTA nominated director Ed Bazalgette to create short film about the deepest lake in the world.
Located in eastern Siberia, Lake Baikal is the world’s oldest, deepest and biggest lake and is famed for its unique and complex ecosystem.
More than 400 miles long, up to 50 miles wide and with a maximum depth of over a mile, this 25 million-year-old lake is the most voluminous on the planet with more than 20% of the world’s fresh water held within its vast shoreline.
Each year Lake Baikal freezes to create a stunning winter environment – one that recently played host to Mazda Epic Drive Siberia – a driving event that saw Mazda become the first manufacturer to successfully cross the lake in CX-5 AWDs.
Mazda worked with the Baikalsky Nature Reserve and its Deputy Director Irina Lyasota to ensure its plan did not impact the ecosystem of this UNESCO World Heritage site, and the film looks at Lake Baikal through the eyes of Irina….
